We are so proud of our award winning red wines, but when we saw the weather forecast last month for an event we were attending, we realized we had an opportunity to showcase another wine while pouring at Sunset’s SAVOR the Central Coast.
Summer just doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon, so stock up on our Grenache Rosé on special for just $10.80 / bottle and enjoy some sangria while waiting for cooler weather to arrive!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Record Family Wines to Debut at Sunset SAVOR the Central Coast
Boutique Brand Awarded Best in Class for its 2012 Reserve Syrah
September 22, 2015 (Paso Robles, CA) – Record Family Wines, a family-owned winery in Paso Robles, is set to debut its 2012 Reserve Syrah ($34) this weekend at Sunset SAVOR the Central Coast. The wine, slated for release this fall, was awarded the Best in Class and a Gold Medal in the Sunset International Wine Competition. Judges described the wine as “floral with perfumed violet … a generous palate with strawberry compote character, sturdy tannins and a lingering finish”.
The competition, now in its fourth year, brings together Sunset Wine Editor, Sara Schneider’s dream team of more than 50 judges representing Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine, seasoned wine journalists, experienced winemakers and retailers for the annual April judging; results are announced in the October issue of Sunset.
“We are honored to be selected Best in Class with such a prestigious panel of judges and among thousands of wines,” said Tricia Record Swartz, co-owner and sales and marketing director for the family business. “We don’t enter many competitions as we are still growing, but this accolade is a validator to the stellar wines coming from our estate vineyard in Paso Robles.”
Record Family Wines is a boutique 900 case brand and open by appointment only. The family will be showcasing the 2012 Reserve Syrah throughout the weekend of events beginning with Thursday, September 24 at Strings at Sunset, SAVOR’s Opening Night at the Vina Robles Amphitheatre. You can also catch the family throughout the weekend (Sept. 26-27) at SAVOR’s Main Event at Santa Margarita Ranch.
Located in San Miguel, East of the Salinas River in the newly minted Estrella District AVA of Paso Robles, the 75-acre estate Paso de Record Vineyard is planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. While most of the fruit is purchased by top tier wineries in Paso Robles, the family keeps selected blocks of fruit for its own estate wines. Since its first vintage in 2009, Record Family wines are made to showcase the beautiful and complex flavors of the vineyard.
“It’s inspiring to see the fruit that we passionately farm be recognized for its quality,” said Mindy Record Martinez co-owner and vineyard manager. “As we learn about the vineyard, adapt to each vintage and taste the expression of the fruit in the glass, it makes the hard work worth it.”
The Record Family wine label symbolizes the responsibility women have held and will continue to carry on through future generations of the family’s agricultural heritage.
“Women have always played an important role in the family business,” said Anne Record, mother and co-owner. “From supportive wives and mothers to working the land and holding important positions in the family farming enterprise. I am proud of our daughters’ commitment to the family business.”
Sisters Tricia and Mindy are leading the charge with the wine brand and represent the fifth generation of agriculture for the Record Family. Co-owners and parents Randy and Anne are lifelong farmers in California with ties dating back to the early 1900s. From dairy cows, row crops, citrus groves and now vineyard, the venture in the wine business creates a sustainable model for future generations to thrive in California agriculture.

We are preparing to bottle our 2012 wines and this time, we will have a new wine to reveal! We will be creating a special blend of the original three varieties that were planted to the vineyard when we purchased it in 2007: Merlot, Syrah, and Grenache. The result is a fun, fruity, blend that will pair perfectly with simple, everyday dishes like pasta and BBQ.
Last weekend, the Record Family came together for our annual Thanksgiving celebration. After enjoying an amazing spread of delicious dishes, we pulled out some barrel samples of the 2012 wines and created the blend. Everyone had a chance to give us feedback and even contribute to the conversation about what to name this special blend.

It’s never too early to start shopping for the holidays. Instead of waiting until the last minute and paying for expedited shipping so I don’t have to brave the mall crowds, I decided I am going to start earlier than ever this year! Here are some of my favorite discoveries for the wine lover on your list:
1) Michael Aram Rock Wine Coaster
This gorgeous granite coaster would look amazing on any table dressed up for a special occasion! When not in use, it is a great piece to leave out on the bar. Get this for the person who has everything.
2) Menu Barware Wine Thermometer
For the techie on your list, make sure they are always serving wine at the ideal temperature. Need a gift for the office gift exchange? At $30, it fits most acceptable price ranges!
3) Pottery Barn Classic Glass Punch Bowl
I love to whip up a batch of sangria (recipe coming soon!) for a special occasion or a warm summer afternoon spent lounging on the patio. Serve it in style with this classic punch bowl. Looking to add a personal touch? Monogramming available!
4) SPARQ Wine Pearls
When you get home from a long day and can’t wait to chill your bottle of wine? No problem, don’t add ice cubes, add wine pearls! These (personalized) stainless steel pearls keep your wine, or other beverage of choice, cool so you don’t have to wait any longer to enjoy!
5) Bicycle Wine Rack
I love the selection of handmade items you can find on Etsy, and this is no exception. Perfect for the urban wino, use the bicycle wine rack to tote a bottle to a friend’s house or the park for a picnic.
6) Wine Club Gift Membership

What kind of gifts are you shopping for this holiday season?
Tomorrow is Halloween, so it is officially time to start thinking about one of my favorite holidays – Thanksgiving! I love this holiday for so many reasons: the traditions, spending time with family, the food… And in the Record Family, we take our food seriously!
Several years ago, the “kids” decided to give the “parents” a break and take over preparing food for our annual Thanksgiving feast. Just another way we are transitioning traditions through the generations of our family! It is always fun to try new dishes along with savoring traditional sides. It seems that we all have our favorites to make (mine are mashed potatoes!) but we can’t ignore the importance of the main dish – the turkey! Here are a few of my favorite recipes that we have used the last few years, none will disappoint!
1) Clinton Kelly’s Lemon Sage Turkey
I found this recipe a couple of years ago and decided it would be the one I used when preparing my first Thanksgiving turkey! The recipe does not call for a brine, but after extensive conversations with Mindy, I decided to do one anyway. The flavors of this turkey are incredible! The citrus and sage combination was delicious. Just don’t skimp on the compound butter!
2) The Pioneer Woman Roasted Thanksgiving Turkey
If you are looking for a simple turkey that delivers a ton of classic flavors, this is the recipe for you! The Pioneer Woman recommends using a brine so be sure you are prepared to start the night before. Beyond that, this turkey does not take much work, which will give you plenty of time to focus on those delicious side dishes! The turkey is a gorgeous shade of brown and juicy when roasted to perfection!
3) Roast Turkey with Black Truffle Butter
While I can’t vouch for this recipe yet, I can’t wait to try it! I love anything with truffle flavor so I can only imagine what this would add to my Thanksgiving plate! The recipe looks a little more complicated in that you need to make a garlic confit, but if you are up for a challenge I suggest this recipe for a potentially big flavor payoff!
When choosing wine to pair with our Thanksgiving meal, I love the versatility of our 2012 Grenache Rosé and look forward to seeing how our newest release, the 2011 Randy’s Red stands up to some of the bolder Thanksgiving flavors.
Do you have a go-to turkey recipe? What wine do you plan to open this year?
We are excited to announce that we will be participating in the upcoming “Taste of the Nation San Diego” event benefiting Share our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign. This great organization is helping to put a stop to child hunger in America. They do this by “connecting families with the resources they need to provide their children with enough nutritious food, every day, to thrive.”
Sound like a great cause? Show your support and join over 50 San Diego restaurants, breweries, wineries, and distilleries at the event taking place on September 14th at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. Visit the website to find out more about the two ticket optionsand do your part to help stop child hunger!
In April, we had a production crew from the Cooking Channel show Man Fire Food out to the vineyard to show them how we cook with fire! Over the course of two days, the crew documented the history of our Deep Pit BBQ tradition, the preparation of the meat, the cooking process, and the final feast. Here is a behind the scenes look of what took place!

While we are always excited to showcase our current wine offerings and provide first tastes of what’s to come, this year it is all about you – our loyal wine club members! So, we are throwing a party in your honor.
We’ll be kicking off the festivities at 6pm this year to take advantage of the cool Paso nights so don’t forget to bring a jacket. In addition to our soon to be TV famous deep pit bbq, we’ll have sides and hors d’ourves from the infamous Chef Rick.

[Dancing into the night!]
Dancing into the night!
I am personally most excited to show you the drastic changes that have happened in the vineyard over the past year. There will be vineyard tours departing as fast as we can loop the tractor. One of these monumental vineyard changes has made room for some temporary choice camping spots, experience them now because they’ll be covered in Cabernet Sauvignon vines this time next year!
[Camping on the vineyard!]

If you are planning on camping out, be sure drop a note to Tricia (firstname.lastname@example.org) no less than 24 hrs in advance to reserve your spot. Need a trailer? Check out a local unique rental company Tinker Tin Trailer Company.
In order to guarantee the festivities go off without a hitch please let us know if you’ll be joining us. You can login to your account or email Tricia. See you on June 28th!
It’s only May, but it feels like summer has arrived around here! If you are craving a light, delicious salad to pair with our Grenache Rosé, look no further!
We have about 20 acres of grapefruit in Riverside County, so I brought some home with me last time I visited my parents, picked up a ripe avocado, some mixed greens, and got to work. I prefer making my salad dressings from scratch because I can control what goes into it – I used minimal salt and honey as a sugar substitute for this flavor packed champagne vinaigrette.
Here’s what you need to get started:
Grapefruit Avocado Summer Salad!
Grapefruit, peeled and sliced with membranes removed
3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (I use a garlic olive oil from WeOlive in Paso Robles)
2 tablespoons Champagne vinegar
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon honey
ground pepper to taste
kosher salt to taste
Whisk together in a small bowl
